Focus Home Interactive announces Cities XL 2011 Posted Sunday, 27 June 2010 by Greybeard
With this press release, we'd like to inform you that Focus Home Interactive acquired Cities XL and the current developments of the game.
This fall, Focus will launch Cities XL 2011, an enriched version which will meet all the expectations of City Builder's fans.
"It's important not to leave Cities XL without a future, declares Cedric Lagarrigue, CEO of Focus Home Interactive. Though the game may not have reached the ambitious objectives set forth by Monte Cristo, it has been successful in Europe and via online platforms. There's a community that's developed around the game, hopes and expectations that we cannot leave without a future. We are convinced that the game must make its mark and become a reference as promised during the pre-release announcements of the original 2009 game. We will therefore release Cities XL 2011 in October and will do so with the intent to please those who bought the earlier version. Moreover, we are working on a special offer for the game's release which we will soon reveal. As for the other City Builder and management game fans, Cities XL 2011's content, options, and features should give them great satisfaction."

About Cities XL 2011:
With Cities XL 2011, build and develop gigantic cities on realistic 3D maps, thanks to an incredible collection counting more than 700 buildings and unique structures. You are the virtual mayor and as such, you will need to find the right balance between economic development for your city, public transportation, housing, social services, leisure activities and even special events in town. Realism has been pushed a little bit deeper with larger cities, more realistic and more sophisticated than ever before!
Widen your horizon!
Cities XL 2011 pushes its limits further: hundreds of new buildings and structures appear for a total of more than 700 constructions, leading the way for new building and combinations options never seen before in a City Builder. Many new maps are also available, for a total of 45 buildable maps. City management will offer the full experience thanks to the addition of public transportation (subway, bus) which will decongest downtown traffic while lowering pollution levels and increasing the population's satisfaction. A more elaborated tax system will let all apprentice mayors adjust personal and local business taxes. A new commercial user interface will permit trade between cities in single player mode if a player decides to develop several cities.
Thanks to these big novelties and to a lot of inspired improvements, Cities XL 2011 truly reaches a whole new dimension to please all City Builders’ fans!

CITIESXL: * EPIC FAIL * Monte Cristo terminates 'Planet mode' Posted Thursday, 28 January 2010 by Greybeard
Dear Mayors,
First of all we want to thank you for your support since Cities XL was released in October of last year, and as far back as October 2007 for some of you.
In early 2007 we decided to be those who would make a new offer to City Builder games fans. Right from the start Cities XL has always been an innovative project regarding its online dimension. Of course, trying something new always comes with a risk.
Three months after the launch we have to admit that the subscription rate is lower than what we expected and therefore the Planet Offer is not sustainable. Not enough players decided to subscribe.
Therefore, it is with deep regret that we decided to put an end to the Planet Offer as of March 8th 2010. It will no longer be possible to subscribe to the game starting Monday February 1st 2010. Nevertheless the Cities XL adventure goes on! Cities XL will evolve into a fully single player game. As soon as march the Bus will be added for free in the solo game. At the same time we also keep on working on new content and new features to keep on improving Cities XL.
We do realize that some of you were real fans of the Planet Offer, and loved to be able to visit other player’s cities and trade tokens between players. There are simply not enough of us.
Thank you again for your understanding and support.

General questions:
When will the servers go down exactly?
The game servers will be closed on March 8 2010 at 0:00 GMT. The website will stay up but will change to reflect the new state of the game. That change will occur progressively during the weeks leading to the actual game servers’ closure.
What are your plans for CXL? Will you keep supporting the game and release patches? Will you release additional content for the solo game now? When? And at what price tag?
Cities XL will be refocused as a solo game. The current online game will be supported until it ends; but until Cities XL 2011 is released no new content or patches will be published either for the current online game or solo game.
What will become of existing PO-specific content, such as avatar mode, Megastructures or specific maps? What about already released content packs (Old England buildings, bus system...)?
The avatar mode is tied to the online game, and it will disappear with it. The Bus will be included in the new solo version. The Blueprints gameplay will be redesigned and retrofitted to be part of Cities XL 2011. Actual megastructures will be spread through multiple paid content packs.
What exactly will be included in the new content packs? When will they be released and at what price?
Three theme content packs will be released: Europe, America and Asia. Their content will include all of the current Planet offer exclusive contents (buildings and maps), plus the megastructures, as well as new content.
Note: The Bus will be included in the new solo game.
The packs as well as Cities XL 2011 will be released simultaneously on our site as digital downloads. Their exact content and their prices will be announced in the next few weeks. We intend to keep the prices very reasonable.
Does the end of PO mean any kind of changes to solo gameplay? (e.g: more map slots, ability to trade between cities...)
The core solo gameplay will not change a lot but it will see many improvements in Cities XL 2011.
The trade system will be included in Cities XL 2011 so it will become possible to trade between your own cities and specialise them the same way you would do in Planet gameplay. It will also enable you to use Blueprints and build Megastructures. The current map selection system will be redone in favour of a planet system; it will also include 10 more maps.
What will become of the current solo game? Will the account activation & login still work?
Your current solo cities will be compatible with the new solo system allowing you to seamlessly continue playing your cities.
We will keep the authentication scheme the same way it works now.
I liked the social aspects of PO. Will you keep some of the web features up? (Profile page, trading, CJs...)
The current site features are tied to the Planet offer and they will end with it on March 8. However the trading gameplay and tokens exchanges will be possible in the Cities XL 2011.
What are your plans to keep the community active? Can we expect the game to open more to modding and custom content?
Although the online game comes to an end the community still lives on and we plan to support it the same way we have always done.
As for game modifications and custom content: this has always been part of our plans, and the end of the Planet offer does not change that at all. Quite the opposite in fact: we had to put restrictions in place regarding that to avoid potential cheating and abuses online. Now that the game is focused on solo gameplay it will be easier for everyone to make modifications and create and share custom content.
Current Planet Offer subscribers
What will happen to existing cities? Will I have an option to convert them and play them in solo?
Cities XL 2011 will be a new version of the game, with plenty of new features. As such it will require new cities.
Moreover, there is no way for us to automatically supply your cities with the equivalent trades you set up with your friends online.
However, if you really want to, we have a manual and risky process to import Planet Offer cities into your Solo mode. We’ll share this process in a short article in the coming weeks.
Be warned that this process will be totally unsupported by Monte Cristo.
Will my profile page and City Journals be kept online on the www.citiesxl.com website after the closing down of the servers?
The Profile pages and city journals were tied to the success of the online offer, and they will be closed with it on March 8.
I have already subscribed to PO to support the game. Will I have to pay again for DLC so that I can access content such as Old England buildings?
As a Planet Offer subscriber, once Cities XL 2011 will be released you will be automatically granted with all the content present in the European Pack which will include new maps, Megastructures and the Old England building pack.
Also, the Bus will be included in the solo game which will be automatically patched on march 8 2010. ----
The question is..will you be buying CTXL 2011 ..Not me!!

Reply From MC about Planet Subscriptions Posted Friday, 11 December 2009 by Greybeard
Reply recieved from CitiesXL Staff.. -- "Since the release of Cities XL, we have received a lot of feedback about the game, its extra content and features, the available subscription options, etc... And for this we want to say "thanks" to all our players.
We carefully noted and considered all the suggestions and remarks that have been made and we inform you that we are currently working on a revision of our Planet Offer model.
As result of this ongoing process the 2 months and 3 months subscription, as the recurrent payment system, have been suspended for the moment. We are aware of the inconveniences that this transaction might generate and we apologise for this, but you can be sure that our main purpose, which is to provide the best service possible, still remains unchanged.
Thanks again for playing Cities XL, Kind regards,
the Cities XL team" ---
So there you have it...7.99 Euro per month, until further notice..

Monte Cristo Change Planet Cost Posted Thursday, 10 December 2009 by Greybeard Its seems that the makers of CitiesXL have hiked the 'Planet Mode' cost for access. It now has a set rate of $7.99 Euro per month and no discounted prices for extra months. Voice your annoyance or praise for this on the support pages of CitiesXL's Site.

CitiesXL Announces Content Pack #2! Posted Tuesday, 8 December 2009 by Greybeard https://www.citiesxl.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2707&Itemid=128
Planet Offer Only..
Bus System
Traffic is becoming an issue in your city but you do not wish to destroy lovingly crafted neighborhoods to build expressways right in the middle of your residential areas? It’s time to offer your citizens an alternative to cars!
Available from 50.000 inhabitants – or earlier if you use Expert mode and are not too worried about costs – bus lines will prove a handy way for your citizens to get to their working place.
Mega-Ferris Wheel
A new blueprint will allow you to build this fully animated Ferris wheel megastructure to better satisfy the leisure needs of your citizens. It will be particularly appreciated by your Unqualified and Qualified Workers.
New York Map
The Statue of Liberty, some of the most renowned skyscrapers and a complete road layout are already placed on this new realistic map to let you reproduce the famous "city that never sleeps" of the United States of America, or your very own vision of it!
Solo and Planet...
City Hall and Central Library of The Hague
The “Ice Palace”, as it is sometimes called, was one of the winning buildings of the “Point, Shoot, Win” contest we organized last year when the game was still under development. It is now being added to the game as a leisure building, and its library and multimedia center will prove a good way to improve your citizens’ education.
Solo Only...
"The Don" Santa. Has Don Madalff been blessed with the spirit of Christmas all of a sudden? Or is it just another clever scheme from Omnicorp’s boss to make more benefits? The true motives of Madalff will probably not matter much to solo mayors as this drop in prices can only be good news for their cities.
